Nepal Engineering College, also known as NEC, was founded in 1994 as a social academic institution on the initiative of seven philanthropists. A group of forward-thinking professionals and academicians from Nepal laid the groundwork for NEC after realizing the need for a facility to meet the nation’s technical education requirements in the fields of engineering and technology for quickening economic growth, reaching a larger group of Nepalese students, and making high-quality technical education available and affordable to the general public. At the District Administration Office, Bhaktapur, NEC is legitimately registered as a not-for-profit social institute. In later years, a number of engineering colleges in the nation’s private sector were established as a result of NEC ‘s trailblazing example. In order to continue setting an example for others to follow, NEC is dedicated to upholding its well-deserved reputation as “an institution with concerns for quality education and academic freedom.”
Since its founding, NEC has been actively involved in developing, modernizing, and establishing academic curricula as well as providing undergraduate and graduate-level courses in engineering, technology, and related fields. In the days to come, NEC plans to keep up with this program and provide more creative and practical courses in both established and developing fields.
Initially only having a few physical and educational resources, NEC has developed into an organization with learning resources that are on par with those of any reputable university in the nation and the area. Built on 210 acres (10.69 hectares) of land in Bhaktapur’s Changunarayan Municipality, the physical infrastructure and educational resources offer a natural setting and the best possible learning environment.
Currently, NEC provides Masters Degree Programs in addition to Bachelor and Civil for Diploma Holders level courses. All of the undergraduate courses are currently in session at the main Changunarayan Block and the graduate programs are being offered at the NEC Center for Postgraduate Studies in Prayag Pokhari, Lalitpur. At Satdobato in Lalitpur, a B.E. Civil for Diploma Holders (NEC-BDH) course is offered.
