Holi Punhi
Holi ,होली पुन्हि , Nepali’s beloved and very special Holi! Fagu, Holi Punhi, Fagu Purnima etc. There are many names for this festival. About Holi Many timeless works and songs have been composed in different periods in Nepal and India, with the grace of this sacred feast that has been practiced since time immemorial, all of us lovers of dreams can find colors, rejoice and rejuvenate.
The Holi Festival, known also as Fagu Purnima, is a color festival. Family, friends, relatives and others are gathering and throwing colors at each other in a park. Holi is celebrated primarily as the victory of virtues over vices. A mass gathers and celebrates In Kathmandu Durbar Square, which is also a unique feast for foreigners.
Holi’s beginning is more unique in Bhaktapur, and is related to the demonstration of porn. The festival begins installing a pole in Tachpal Dattraya Square which symbolizes Phallus of God Bhimsen. It is demonstrated with a ceremony in front of the Dattatraya temple which includes Newari musical session.Devotees thronged about three feet long and 30 inches in diameter to pay obeisance to this wooden pole and carve it into the form of a human phallus.People visit there and believe that once they observe it, they will be blessed and pay obeisance to the wooden pole which is a symbol of Phallus.
The singing takes place every morning here, until the full moon in the month of Falgun, as in the lunar calendar. The people of the Bhimsen Guthi known as ‘ jayaju, ‘ a religious trust, sing this song.The wooden pole symbolizing the phallus of god Bhimsen is ritualistically inserted into a hole cut on a large red sheet of cloth signifying Draupadi’s genitalia, in the midst of the song. In Mahabharata’s mythological story Draupadi is the queen of the Five Pandava Brothers.
The wooden phallus is also take along to Inacho, Wachutol, Jenla and Taulachhen Tole. Devotees worship this wooden pole and make offerings as every house and shop along the path is brought around in a procession.
Likewise, the festival also began with the installation of a ritualistic wooden pole in Kathmandu Hanumandhoka Durbar Square.
Every year the local Bhimsen Guthi marks Fagu as a traditional festival that symbolizes sex and fertility.
